Improving the Recall Process Forum

Mitretek Healthcare National Recall Forum Stimulates Collaboration Across the Healthcare Industry
On June 14, Mitretek Healthcare hosted a leadership forum in which participants called for standardization, coordination, and continued dialog about healthcare product recalls. The forum provided an environment in which manufacturers, distributors, healthcare providers, and FDA representatives could identify problems in the recall process, and work toward finding constructive ways of overcoming them.

The forum resulted in three prominent themes

  • The need for industry-wide standardization of recall terminology
  • The need to improve the "hand-off" of recall information between manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, and hospitals
  • The need to continue the dialog opened at this Forum and to include more associations in future meetings and conversations

Special Feature: AED recalls

Over 200,000 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) Recalled in the Past 4 Years
The Cardiac Arrest Act directed the placement of AEDs in Federal buildings and provides liability protection for those who render emergency treatment with a defibrillator. Since then, AEDs have been found in public places such as airports, hotels, schools and nursing homes.

After noting the unusually high number of AED recalls, RASMAS analysts compiled a list of recalled devices and are making this recall information available to the public. View AED Recalls.
